Mardi Gras is part of what makes New Orleans famous. Its one of the reasons I decided to move here, and being close to the parade route was a major plus in choosing a place to live.
I live a block and a half from the Uptown parade route in New Orleans, and during the month of February, Mardi Gras is in full swing. My street is packed with parked cars, and throngs of spectators towing coolers and ladders to enjoy the party.
One of the best perks of living this close to the parade is having a “base of operation” close by. Need a fresh drink? You’re a block away. Need to use the restroom? You’re a block away. But most party-goers haven’t put this much thought into enjoying the festivities.
Based on my experience last year, a block and a half is about as far as someone can do the peepee dance before they have to find relief. Remember where my house is? That’s right...
Last year, I scared off HUNDREDS of people trying to take a leak on my house. Male, female, black, white, young and old. And those are only the ones I caught. I’m sure there were more. Not to mention that there was at least one questionable brown substance on my doorstep. Who would do such a thing? Now I’m a fun loving guy, and understand the call of nature, but can you imagine what its like to have hundreds of people doing their business outside YOUR door? My quiet little house doesn’t need this kind of attention!
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's good time here. Mardi Gras is meant to be a light-hearted good time. "Laissez les bon temps roulez" and all that. I'd like to have some fun, and see others enjoy themselves as well. But my fun takes a nose dive when my yard gets turned into an open sewer... Your fun ends where mine begins.
So this year I’m taking a different approach. A more proactive approach. I refuse to miss the party going on down the block, so I plan to set up a surprise for those that think I live in a urinal. Check around the site, take a look at my Plan, and hopefully we’ll get some fun videos to share...for everyone’s enjoyment.
